Here's to Alpha Phi Omega
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to get
initiated into the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity on campus. Alpha Phi Omega, or
APO, is a service fraternity on campus that does a lot of different service
activities on and off of ONU’s campus. A few weeks ago, we received our bigs.
That was a super fun night because I got to become part of a family of a great
group of people. The name of our family is Hot Ass. It’s a really great group
of people who love to give back to not only the campus, but the community,
fraternity, and the nation.
During
my time in APO, I have gotten to be involved in a lot of different fun
activities. For a fall themed activity, we made a bunch of sock turkeys. We filled
socks with rice and tied them off to look like a head and a body. Then, we added
details like felt feet, feathers, and googly eyes. They turned out super cute.
We also have a weekly service event, and we usually make cards for veterans and
friendship bracelets for children in hospitals. Another fun event we did was
hold a game night. People brought a lot of different games and food and we all
hung out and played games. A recent event that we held was going to a local
nursing home and spending time with the residents. We all really enjoyed it and
didn’t want to leave. I think that we all decided that that was an event that we
wanted to make a more regular thing.
We
also just held executive elections to decide who would be on the board for the
2019 semesters. I was fortunate enough to land the PR chair position which I am
super excited about. Other positions include: President, Vice President (VP) of
Fellowship, VP of Membership, VP of Leadership, VP of Service, Secretary, Treasurer,
and a few others. I am really excited to be able to bring my knowledge of PR
into the chapter and hopefully be able to reach out to more students on campus
and try to get them interested and involved in Alpha Phi Omega.
