Caffeine is a Real Addiction

 Is coffee healthy? - CNN

I am a huge fan of coffee. Huge might not even be the best term to describe the love I have for coffee. Hot coffee. Iced coffee. You name it and I will drink it. Even black coffee (but I usually have to be in a certain mood to drink coffee black). I drink anywhere between two and four cups of coffee a day. To say I am dependent on coffee might be an understatement.

This past week, however, I decided that I needed to be drinking more water instead of pop, alcohol, coffee, etc. I told myself that I was going to only drink water or tea. I was excited and even went to the store to buy new tea to try. I was planning on starting this on Monday, but I had forgotten it was my friend’s birthday and we went to El Campo, so I was obligated to have margaritas for the special occasion. I still drank water and tea throughout the day and promised myself that I would officially start on Tuesday.

Well, Tuesday came around and I did it. I drank nothing but tea and water. And to say I had zero energy the entire day is not even close to being accurate. I laid around all day because my only class was online and I didn’t have anywhere to be until work in the evening. I woke up later than I usually do and did not get physically out of bed until a half an hour before noon. That is insane to me. I usually like to get up early and have a cup of coffee on my porch in the morning to help wake up as I scroll through all of my social media pages. Morning tea did not sound as fun, so I stayed in bed.

When people say they need coffee to function, I usually think that is a lie. However, I can now contest that I am one of those people who need coffee to function. If I have too much coffee at once, I become jittery and shaky. I have to spread out my caffeine throughout the day and I keep going pretty well. On some days where I know that I have a lot to do and to get done, I drink around 4 cups of coffee. As I am writing this blog post, I am drinking a large iced mocha coffee and it is delicious. In conclusion, I will no longer be sticking to just water and tea to drink. One day of going withdrawal was enough to make me crack. Besides, water is used to make coffee, so it counts right?

  1. I am definitely a coffee addict, I don’t even deny it now. I’ve been trying to lay off of it but it is very tough to do.
